JOB DESCRIPTION - HYDROPOWER TECHNICIAN HELPER

Job Title: Hydropower Technician Helper

Report to: Hydropower Technician

Locality: Kigutu Clinic, Vyanda, Bururi

Position Type: Full-Time

Key Responsibilities

  1. Technical Support Assist hydropower technicians in installing, maintaining, and repairing equipment such as turbines, generators, pumps, and valves. Help with routine inspections of plant equipment and systems. Support technicians during troubleshooting and repair activities.
  2. Maintenance Assistance Help perform preventive maintenance tasks on mechanical and electrical systems. Clean, lubricate, and maintain tools, machinery, channel conduct and equipment. Assist in replacing or repairing damaged components.
  3. Equipment Handling Transport and organize tools, spare parts, and materials required for maintenance work. Ensure that equipment and work areas are clean and properly organized.
  4. Reporting

Report equipment issues, abnormalities, or safety hazards to supervisors.

Safety Compliance

Follow all safety procedures and operational guidelines related to hydropower plant operations.

Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.

  • Support the implementation of workplace safety and environmental protection measures.
  • Participate in safety training and emergency preparedness activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Technical knowledges in hydropower systems, electrical maintenance, mechanical systems, or industrial equipment and general maintenance.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in technical maintenance, mechanical work, electrical systems, or hydropower operations is preferred.
  • Experience working with tools, machinery, or small power generation systems is an asset.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Basic knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Ability to use technical tools and maintenance equipment safely.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to follow technical instructions and safety procedures.
  • Good teamwork and communication skills.
  • Physical ability to perform manual tasks and work in an industrial environment.
  • Willingness to learn and develop technical skills on the job.

Languages

  • Basic knowledge of Kirundi and French required.
  • Basic English is an advantage.
