The Organization:
Search for Common Ground (Search) is the world's largest dedicated peacebuilding organization, founded in 1982. With programs across Asia, Africa, the Middle East and the United States, Search transforms conflict with a diverse set of tools inspired by its Common Ground Approach. Search is currently implementing a 10-year strategy aimed at driving enduring change and transforming many of the world's most consequential conflicts.
Search has been working in Burundi since 1995 and works at the individual, institutional and community levels to promote inclusive decision-making and management mechanisms and to strengthen the capacity of all components of Burundian society to participate in a meaningful, effective and responsible manner. Its objective is to promote inclusive, effective and responsible participation in the process of social transformation for a just and equitable society.
Team Summary
The Finance Team seeks to achieve excellence in financial management by providing accurate and timely financial information to Search management and programs and by adhering to established financial practices and accounting principles. The key focus of the team is to provide the required financial structure to allow for all programmatic plans to be achieved in a most effective and efficient manner. The team has responsibility for the consolidated financial reporting, cash management, internal controls, and overall accounting operations at Search for Common Ground country office. The accounting process includes summarizing, analyzing and reporting these transactions to oversight agencies, regulators and tax collection entities; recording accounts, paying invoices, tracking assets and expenditures, managing payroll and keeping track of critical tax documents.
Position Summary
The Finance Associate will be responsible for providing support to the finance team in areas such as financial analysis, reporting, budgeting and forecasting, analyzing financial data, preparing reports, and assisting with day-to-day financial operations contributing to efficiency in the department.
Responsibilities
Support Search for Common Ground’s and donor’s rules, regulations, policies, processes, procedures, and standards to ensure compliance and confidentiality of the Finance activities and data.
- Support monitoring of Finance data for irregularities
- Proactively report Finance irregularities to the manager
- Process routine and non-routine requests from the Finance team
- Provide support to budget monitoring, reporting, reviewing finance data, payroll and audits
Contributions
Administrative Support
- Provides routine and non-routine administrative support to the Finance team with limited supervision
- Collaborate with the Finance team to collect, prepare, and enter data for the preparation of statements, reports, and records
- Collaborate with Finance team members to monitor the accuracy of data in the Finance system.
- Support review of banking transactions and reconciliations
Grants Administrative Support
- Support Finance team on routine reports, including, but not limited to sub awardee expenditures, reconciliations, and budget monitoring
- Maintain accurate paper and electronic filing grants, sub awardee budgets and grants, grants, sub-awards, and audit reports
Petty Cash
- Participate in monitoring and tracking petty cash, travel advances, and other routine transactions
- Participate on payroll calculations, including, but not limited to statutory deductions, leave balance, and benefits
- Participate in tracking, monitoring, and the reconciliation of petty cash
- Escalate irregularities with payroll and/or petty cash to the supervisor
Procurement, Accounts Receivable, and Accounts Payable
- Maintain accurate paper and electronic files including, but not limited to vendor registration and agreements, account receivables and payables
- Collaborates with Finance team members to ensure timely processing of invoices, accounts receivable and payable, travel advances and reconciliations, procurements, and expenditures
- Support vetting of vendor agreements and registrations
- Respond to routine and non-routine Finance inquiries from vendors and suppliers in a timely manner and escalate irregularities, challenges, and difficulties to the supervisor
Payroll
- Maintain payroll register including but not limited to gross pay, deductions, tax withholding, net pay and other payroll-related information for each pay period and pay date
- Maintain paper and electronic personnel action forms
- Coordinate with Human Resources on personnel action forms, payroll updates, including but not limited to salary changes, new hires, employee departures, and title changes

Education and Experience
Typically BS/BA with minimum 3 years’ experience
